The San Francisco giants The upcoming MLB offseason is expected to be very busy. It is expected that they will attempt to get back into serious contention for the 2025 season.
As is usually the case, the Giants have money to spend and are an attractive destination. Unfortunately, they have fallen just short in most of their big free agency moves in recent years.
In recent months, San Francisco has been mentioned as a potential dark horse team when it comes to superstar outfielder Juan Soto. While he would be the prized target for the Giants, it is extremely unlikely he would sign with the team.
Instead, San Francisco will have to turn around and focus on other potential targets who could bring a big bat to the lineup.
One of those potential targets could be a bitter rival.
Los Angeles Dodgers Star outfielder Teoscar Hernandez would be a prime target for the Giants this season and would bring the type of bat they are looking to acquire.
San Francisco should strongly consider making full-court pressure to steal Hernandez from the Dodgers.
During the 2024 MLB season with Los Angeles, Hernandez played in 154 regular season games. He hit 33 home runs and 99 RBI while hitting .272/.339/.501.
Hernandez would bring elite power to the Giants and in addition to just power, he also has a quality bat. He’s the kind of piece that can take San Francisco’s lineup to the next level.
In the postseason, Hernandez was a crucial part of the Dodgers’ run to the World Series. He hit three home runs and drove in 10 RBI. Adding that kind of experience and clutch production would also be a big help.
At 32 years old, the star outfielder still has plenty of good baseball to play. He would be well worth a four or five year contract.
There are plenty of options available for the Giants to look at. Cody Bellinger could be another pick for San Francisco if he opts out of his deal to explore free agency.
That said, the opportunity to both sign Hernandez as a big part of the lineup and weaken Los Angeles by stealing him away would be a perfect scenario for the Giants.
