CINCINNATI— Khalil Herbert is the newest Cincinnati Bengals player and Joe Burrow commented on the trade during his weekly press conference.
“I’m glad we went out there and tried to get better,” Burrow said.
Cincinnati dealt their 2025 seventh-round draft pick to strengthen the backfield.
“I think so,” Burrow said when asked if Herbert could play Thursday. “We’ll find out, I guess, but football is football for the most part. You know a few new languages, but he’s standing next to me, so I can tell him what to do when he’s there. We’ll figure it out doing.” We’ll see how much he ends up playing, but I’m confident we can get him in the right spot on Thursday night.”
Burrow acknowledged the front office’s work in showing this veteran-laden team that they want to win.
“That shows that they believe that the players of this team will do what we want to do this year.” Burrow stated. “Maybe there were holes here and there, but they wanted to go out and improve the team for this stretch, and that’s exciting and positive for our team.”
Herbert has been quite efficient during his time with the Bears (372 rushing attempts for 1,791 yards (4.8 yard average) and nine touchdowns). Andrew Russell had that too an interesting comment on
Herbert has 22 career late-down rushes in scenarios of three yards or less and has a first down or score on 16 of them.
“I hear he’s good in pass protection,” Burrow commented on Herbert’s skills. “It might be tough to get him to block the right guy on third down blitzes this week. So we’ll see what his role ends up being. But number one, that, and number two, just get some tricks out of Chase (Brown ) He had 27 carries last week, played great and also played great last game. So now maybe a few runs here and there, a few passes to take some of the load off Chase.
Cincinnati’s backfield is ready to roll with Burrow for the rest of the 2024 season.
