DANVILLE, Ill. (WICS) — A high-speed chase in Danville ended with a prison sentence.
On November 4, 2024, Malik Brown, 25, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, a class 2 misdemeanor, and possession of a stolen vehicle, a class 4 misdemeanor, and was sentenced up to seven years in prison. years with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Brown’s prison sentence will be followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.
On December 7, 2023, Rossville Police notified Danville Police that they were pursuing a vehicle with two stolen license plates southbound toward Danville.
The vehicle eventually entered the city of Danville. Multiple Danville Police Department officers joined in the pursuit of the vehicle, during which time the suspect vehicle reached speeds of approximately 80 miles per hour on Vermilion Street and passed numerous stop signs.
The vehicle eventually drove through the backyard of a home in Danville, where it struck a deck and retaining wall before coming to a stop.
The driver, later identified as Malik Brown, and the front seat passenger fled the vehicle and led officers on a foot chase.
Brown and the passenger were both arrested. The vehicle was confirmed stolen.
