Twenty-five rescuers helped carry the woman more than four miles back to the trailhead.
This weekend, rescuers rescued a Boston woman who injured her lower leg while hiking the Franconia Ridge Trail in New Hampshire, carrying her more than four miles amid light wind chills.
The agency’s statement said the woman had planned to solo hike the 9-mile Falling Waters/Old Bridle Path Loop starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, but as she was descending Mount Lincoln toward Mount Lafayette, she fell and injured her lower leg. . New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game.
At 1:45 p.m., authorities received information that a hiker was injured between Mount Lincoln and Mount Lafayette on the Franconia Ridge Trail – 7.2 kilometers from the trailhead.
Conservation officers and volunteers responded to the Old Bridle Path trailhead in Franconia Notch, but traffic on I-93 slowed their response. The statement said rescuers were only able to hit the trail after 3 p.m.
Officials say the 33-year-old hiker was trying to keep warm as winds reached 60-80 mph and temperatures reached 30 degrees on the Franconia Ridge.
The department said a two-person Appalachian Mountain Club crew from the AMC Greenleaf Hut found her just before 5 p.m., moved her to a somewhat sheltered area and placed her in a sleeping bag until other rescuers arrived at 6 p.m.
The statement said that at 6:20 p.m., 25 rescuers helped her navigate the 7.2-mile route, reaching the trailhead at 1:20 a.m. Sunday.
The woman was transported from the trailhead by private vehicle to assess her injuries.
