- Roy Jones Jr. backed Mike Tyson to chase and obliterate Jake Paul
- The 55-year-old predicts that “Iron Mike” will win
Roy Jones Jr. is confident that Jake Paul will eventually try to outlast Mike Tyson’s might and also sees his fellow boxing legend defeat the YouTuber.
In a conversation with Talksport, Jones Jr. addressed the upcoming showdown between Tyson and Paul, emphasizing that “The Problem Child” is in for an unpleasant battle. For Jones Jr., who famously fought Tyson in 2020, Paul will feel the power of ‘Iron Mike’, especially with the rounds being shorter than two minutes.
Jones Jr. believes Tyson won’t slow down and continue to batter Paul, but once the boxing legend lands a big, the fight is over.
“That’s the real question: How much can Jake survive?” said Jones Jr. “That’s the real question because Mike has what it takes to get someone out of there. And I’m going to tell you this, when I boxed him four years ago it was just two minute rounds, but surprisingly he didn’t refuse, he stayed the same the whole fight and that surprised me. When they do two-minute laps, Mike doesn’t get tired, I already know that because I’ve seen him do it.
“I don’t think he’s going to seriously hurt Jake Paul because I feel… as explosive as Mike is, if he clips Jake, Jake goes down or goes out, if he doesn’t then Jake will be fine, but what is it actually? what harms is repetition. When a man keeps getting hit all the rounds, six rounds, seven rounds, eight rounds, he’s still getting hit with the same shots. Mike hits so hard you can’t shoot him, not two rounds in a row or three rounds in a row. That doesn’t happen. Therefore, no lasting harm will come to Jake,” he added.
Tyson is like a pit bull
Jones Jr. also thinks Tyson comes in with bad intentions. The way he sees it, “The Baddest Man on the Planet” won’t be able to stop himself from hurting Paul and that could lead to a stunning knockout.
“Mike says: I tell people all the time that I’ve had all kinds of dogs. Mike is like a pit bull,” Jones Jr. said. “The problem with a pit bull is that they don’t know how to really play. They’ll try to play, but before long they’ll actually try to fight because that’s just what’s in their blood… that’s who Mike Tyson is.
“Mike Tyson is a guy who goes in and tries to do what he has to do, but he just can’t do anything about it. He wants to kill, you can’t do anything about that. So when you go in there and let it get going, it gets hot, and once it gets hot, it’s over.
Roy’s prediction
As expected, Jones Jr. confident that Tyson will get the upper hand over the YouTuber turned boxing star. Depending on how long Paul can survive, Jones Jr. thinks. that it could end in a decision.
“Well, I like Mike, probably by choice. But if he chooses to go out and take him out, I think he can. However, I have a feeling that if he feels comfortable, he will just box and enjoy himself, because why get in shape just to play one round?,” the 55-year-old predicted.
Despite his age, Tyson trains like an animal on the way to his boxing return. The 58 year old has vowed to get Paul out and ended the youngster’s flourishing boxing career.
Paul vs. Tyson takes place on November 15e at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas and will be streamed live and free on Netflix.
