Here are the details of ISL 2024-25 Matchday 5, with the latest match report coming first.
NorthEast United 2-3 Chennaiyin FC

Chennaiyin FC made a brilliant comeback to claim an impressive away win against NorthEast United, winning 3-2. Owen Coyle’s men have leapfrogged NEUFC in the table, climbing to fourth place, while the hosts have dropped to eighth in the table.
NorthEast quickly opened the scoring, winning the ball back deep in their own half before quickly heading up the pitch. Nestor Albiach passed wide to Jithin MS, who made a smart pass to Parthib and ran into the right channel. The Indian striker did well to slot a low cross past multiple defenders, allowing Nestor to slot the ball home. NEUFC controlled the situation well and Ajaraei wasted a great opportunity to make it 2-0 a few minutes later. They had to pay the price in the 25th minute when Wilmar Jordan Gil jumped high and headed in the ball after a corner kick from Connor Shields.
Chennaiyin put the game away 10 minutes later when Michel Zabaco pulled down Ryan Edwards in the box and conceded a penalty. Lukas Brambilla made no mistake immediately, he directed the ball into the upper left corner and in the 36th minute the guests took the lead, which they maintained until the break.
Owen Coyle’s men then scored from another corner in the second half, although NEUFC cleared the first phase, only to lose the ball, allowing CFC to throw it back into the box, where Jordan Gil beat the offside trap, controlled the ball and he volleyed it in the 51st minute, giving the hosts a 3-1 lead. Chennaiyin FC remained ahead throughout the half, but Laldinliana Renthlei’s second yellow card in the 84th minute complicated matters and the team was reduced to ten men.
Then, in the 88th minute, Irfan Yadwad clumsily fouled Alaeddine Ajaraie in the penalty area, conceding a penalty and saving the hosts. Ajaraie sent CFC goalkeeper Samik Mitra the wrong way and scored for the fifth consecutive match, one shy of the ISL record held by Elano. NEUFC threw the kitchen sink at CFC in stoppage time, but the visitors held on for the victory.
